These Saunas and Spas With Epic Views Should Be on Your Bucket List

saunas and mineral pools in the Austrian Alps

Sauna culture is exploding worldwide, but some are more picturesque and incredible than others. While I’ve enjoyed the sprawling sauna and mineral pool compounds in Germany, I’ve never been to these incredible places.

Here are the best saunas with amazing views for your bucket list.

1. Arctic Bath, Swedish Lapland

Floating on the pristine waters of the Lule River, this UFO-shaped sauna spa at Arctic Bath looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.

In winter, it freezes into the ice; in summer, it bobs gently on the water, creating a constantly changing perspective of the surrounding wilderness.

The real magic happens when you’re lounging in the wood-heated floating sauna, gazing through floor-to-ceiling windows at the Northern Lights painting the sky in greens and purples.

The main sauna complex features six different rooms, each offering a unique vantage point of the river and forest.

The crown jewel is the circular glass-walled sauna that seems to hover right above the water’s surface.

Between sauna sessions, brave souls can take a plunge in the river through a hole in the center of the structure – a traditional Swedish practice that’s said to boost immunity and mental clarity.

2. Ästad Vingård, Sweden

Wine and sauna? Yes, please! Hidden in Sweden’s largest private vineyard, this glass-walled sauna at Ästad Vingård sits atop a hill overlooking endless rows of grape vines.

As the steam rises around you, watch the sunset paint the vineyard in golden hues. The facility includes three different saunas, each offering a unique perspective of the 50-hectare estate.

What makes this spot extra special is their innovative “wine sauna” concept. You can order a glass of their award-winning wine to sip while you soak in the view.

The sommeliers have carefully selected specific wines that complement different sauna temperatures and times of day. Just don’t forget to hydrate between glasses!

3. ION Adventure Hotel, Iceland

Perched on stilts at the foot of an ancient lava field, the sauna at Ion Iceland feels like you’re floating in space.

Through massive windows, watch geysers erupt while staying toasty warm inside. The hotel’s award-winning design seamlessly integrates with its otherworldly surroundings, making it feel like you’re on the edge of the world.

The sauna complex features three different rooms, including a traditional Icelandic smoke sauna and a modern infrared cabin.

But the star of the show is the panoramic sauna, where floor-to-ceiling windows offer unobstructed views of the Icelandic wilderness. During winter months, you might catch the Northern Lights while enjoying your sauna session.

4. Aqua Dome, Austrian Alps

Imagine floating in an infinity pool-style sauna pod, suspended over a valley with 360-degree views of snow-capped Alpine peaks. That’s exactly what you’ll find at Aqua Dome. These futuristic, bowl-shaped saunas seem to defy gravity, and when night falls, they light up like alien spacecraft against the mountain backdrop.

The facility features three floating thermal pools, each maintained at different temperatures and offering unique mineral compositions.

The sauna world includes seven different themed saunas, but the crown jewel is the panoramic sauna pod that appears to hover above the valley.

The glass walls provide uninterrupted views of the Ötztal Alps, while the interior maintains a perfect balance of humidity and heat.

5. Juvet Landscape Hotel, Norway

Ever wondered what it feels like to sauna in a glass cube hanging off a cliff? The minimalist sauna at Juvet gives you front-row seats to Norway’s raw wilderness.

Perched above a rushing river and surrounded by pine forests, it’s so seamlessly integrated into nature that you might forget there’s glass between you and the great outdoors.

The architecture here is nothing short of revolutionary. Each sauna cabin is uniquely positioned to capture a different aspect of the landscape, ensuring no two experiences are quite the same.

The main spa building features a hot tub carved from a single piece of local stone and a steam room that seems to emerge from the rock face itself.

6. Miramonti Boutique Hotel, South Tyrol, Italy

This infinity sauna at Miramonti Boutique Hotel literally hangs off the edge of a mountain. As you sweat it out, you’re treated to panoramic views of the Merano Valley and the Dolomites beyond.

The hotel’s position at 1,230 meters above sea level means you’re literally sweating above the clouds, with the valley floor often hidden beneath a sea of mist.

The kicker? At night, you can watch the lights of the valley twinkle below while staying cozy in your personal slice of heaven.

The hotel also offers forest bathing sessions in its private woods, and its rooftop infinity pool provides another perspective on those stunning mountain views.

For the ultimate experience, book a sunrise sauna session followed by breakfast on the panoramic terrace.

7. Mama Thresl

Nestled in the heart of the Austrian Alps, Mama Thresl in Leogang offers a unique blend of urban flair and alpine serenity. The hotel’s Finnish panoramic sauna, aptly named “the panoramic heat,” provides guests with breathtaking views of the Leogang Mountains through expansive windows, creating a tranquil atmosphere for relaxation.

Beyond the sauna, Mama Thresl’s wellness area includes the “rest coves,” featuring organically shaped resting bunks, and “the empty room,” a space dedicated to silence and mountain vistas.  For those seeking a more private experience, select rooms like the “woodenstyle & spa” and “thresl’s one & only” offer personal saunas and freestanding bathtubs with panoramic views.

Whether you’re unwinding after a day on the slopes or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, Mama Thresl’s combination of modern design and natural beauty provides an unforgettable sauna experience.

8. Arctic TreeHouse Hotel, Finnish Lapland

Nestled among the treetops, this sauna at the Arctic Treehouse Hotel gives new meaning to the phrase “bird’s eye view.”

The entire northern wall is glass, offering an unobstructed view of the Arctic forest. The sauna complex is built around ancient pine trees, with elevated walkways connecting different buildings without disturbing the natural environment.

Each private sauna suite features its own unique view of the wilderness, but the main spa building is where the real magic happens. The two-story glass wall faces north, maximizing chances of spotting the Northern Lights while enjoying a traditional Finnish sauna experience. In winter, you might spot reindeer trudging through the snow while the Aurora Borealis flickers overhead.

9. Longyearbyen Sauna, Svalbard

Welcome to the world’s northernmost commercial sauna. Located in the Arctic wilderness of Svalbard, this sauna offers views of glaciers, fjords, and during the polar night, the most incredible Northern Lights displays you’ll ever see.

The facility sits right on the edge of the fjord, with nothing between you and the Arctic Ocean except a wall of glass. The main sauna building features three different rooms, including a traditional smoke sauna and a panoramic steam room.

But the highlight is the glass-walled Arctic sauna, where you can watch seals play in the fjord or spot polar bears on the distant ice (don’t worry – they have armed guards on patrol!).

Your Next Steam Session Awaits

Whether you’re chasing the Northern Lights in Finland or gazing at the Alps in Austria, these saunas and resorts prove that sometimes the best views come with a side of steam.

From floating glass boxes to mountain-top retreats, each offers a unique perspective on some of the world’s most stunning landscapes.
